US 321 is closed
between noon and 2 p.m. on Tuesdays
and Thursdays.
The route will have a detour route noted by directional signs, but that will be a VERY roundabout way to bypass the construction.
The official detour will direct travelers to U.S. 421, then to N.C. 18 and back
to U.S. 321.
Proceed US-321 up the mountain into the town of Blowing Rock(38 miles)
As you arrive in Blowing Rock you will pass three landmarks:
Days Inn
Hardees
ABC Store
Continue on US-321 N thru Blowing Rock.
As you drive out of Blowing Rock the road changes to US-321 N / US-221N.
After you have driven around a series of winding turns you will enter
the outskirts of Boone, NC.
In Boone, at a MAJOR intersection, turn left on NC-105 (2-story Wendy's on left).
Drive approximately 13 miles towards Foscoe, Banner Elk on NC-105
Turn right onto NC-184 / Tynecastle Hwy.
To The Great Train Robbery (GTR)
Continue on 184-North for 2 miles
On the left you will see THE GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY
(30,000 Sq Ft Building next to Lowe's Home Improvement)
To Eagles Nest
Continue on SR-184-North for 4 miles into the light in Banner Elk.
Turn left on 194-South - (you are about 3 miles from Eagles Nest)
On the right, 2 miles past the airport, you will see the signature rock walls
and the entrance to The Lodges at Eagles Nest.
