Glorious Fourth
Almost 2,000 patriotic people gathered at John and Susan’ Turchin’s The Lodges
at Eagles Nest last Saturday, July 11, to take part in the inaugural Red, White
and Blue Weekend – a fundraiser for the Banner Elk Fire Department. From midday
Saturday to 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, locals and visitors danced to their hearts content
to the sounds of En Vogue and other talented musicians, hailing from such bands
as Eric Clapton’s and Bob Seger’s. “It was quite an event,” added Turchin. “It was
greater than we ever expected.” And it’s only the beginning; there’ll be plenty
more parties to come.” Although the final tally has yet to be determined, the Turchins’
party raised over $30,000 for the Banner Elk Fire Department, which will be used
to purchase a new fire truck.
